THE ICE CREAM IS MELTING!

THE ICE CREAM IS MELTING!

Antarctic enthusiast Bonnie and younger sibling Nikau have been promised a special treat – everyone’s favourite – ice cream! But it’s a hot day and on the way back from the shops the unspeakable occurs: the ice cream begins to melt...

The Ice Cream is Melting! was commissioned as part of Auckland Live's Pick & Mix programme. It’s a silly, fun, and unique ice cream survival story told through the wonders and skills of circus arts transforming important issues around environmental change into a fantasia of fun.

The Dust Palace troupe of incredible performers utilises the innate joys of aerial silks, aerial straps, contortion, chair stacking and more to fight their way through environmental issues to get the ice cream safely back home for the whānau.

CHAMPIONING THE YOUNG ENVIRONMENTALIST

The importance of the threat of global climate change cannot be understated, and in children and family performance works it feels even more important, as the future generations will be the ones growing up with a lived understanding of it.

By dealing with this issue in a local, kid-scale context we make it simultaneously fun and real, connecting in positive ideas around growing up, such as how our connectedness to nature - even in our cities, is so hugely important for our physical and mental health development and wellbeing.

The joy and love that goes into this company from top to bottom is astounding. Circus and the performing arts taught me so much about dealing with life and it is a privilege to see so many young people growing under the nurturing guidance that The Dust Palace provides.
Congratulations again on a fantastic show, I had my daughter making me be her trapeze this morning while she’d tied her dressing gown up to be moth wings to fly around the kitchen!
