FAQs for new students!!
When and where?
Our address is 61E Hugo Johnston Drive, Penrose. Please arrive 10 minutes early for your first class and let your tutor know that it is your first time. We will take a moment to show you around and welcome you! Be sure to tap your name on the iPad to sign in.
What do I wear?
For aerial classes please make sure you have no zips or metal on your clothing, zips often catch and damage our equipment. You’ll want to wear comfy stretchy clothing with the backs of your knees and your tummy covered as these areas can be burnt or grazed by the equipment. As you get more advanced you should also bring a layer that can cover your armpits. For other acrobatic classes just wear comfortable clothing that you can move in, again with no metal bits.
What do I bring?
We have filtered water on site so be sure to bring a drink bottle to stay hydrated! Circus is thirsty work.
How do I book?
To book a class you need to create an account, you can do this by clicking “create an account” on the classes page of our website and filling in your details www.circusdb.org/dustpalace/register From here you can buy credits for either a trial class to dip your toes or a full term if you’re ready to commit. Once you have credits you can assign them to the class you’d like to attend.
What if I can’t make my class?
Easy! If you’re away or unwell just early cancel your class (ten mins before it starts) on our booking system. You will be given the credit back and can use it to sign up to any other class as a make-up! This can even be a great time to try out a different discipline like handstands, contortion or aerial conditioning. Credits do expire at the end of each term though so be sure to use up any make-up classes.
Do I need to be fit to start?
Absolutely not! There are no physical prerequisites to begin and the best time to start is now. If you have a background in sports, gymnastics or dancing you may find you progress faster in some areas. Our tutors are experts at working to the mixed levels of all students and we have easier and harder variations to keep everyone included and challenged.
How do I know what class to choose?
Grade 1-2 aerial is the ideal class for adult beginners and teaches you the foundations on a range of different aerial equipment. The youth 7-12 year olds and teens classes are suitable for younger beginners. If you need help picking the right class flick Jaine an email firstname.lastname@example.org
Do I need a partner to start acro or doubles trapeze?
Yes. We’ve found the class and progression works best when you have a duo partner that you regularly work with. We are happy to help you find one within the student body… but the class does not cater to someone if they are on their own.
Are there prerequisites to join doubles trapeze, swinging trapeze or cloudswing?
Yes, you should be able to comfortably climb a rope or fabric and invert in the air. If you’re unsure come along to a Grade 1-2 aerials class and see where your level is at.
What if I’m running late? Can I still come to class?
As long as you are no more than 15 minutes late, you can warm up and join the class. If you are more than 15 minutes late though, you will have missed too much of the warm-up and conditioning and it is not safe for you to join in. You are welcome to stay and watch though.
